The Cabinet of Affinities
The Cabinet of Affinities is a text-based project developed during a residency at Cow House Studios in Ireland. The project consists of a graphic series that draws on sixteenth-century scientific illustration, particularly the Doctrine of Signatures, as well as the classificatory logic of Cabinets of Curiosities. Through forced parallelisms, shifting similitudes, and strange coincidences between Chile and Ireland, the work constructs a speculative geography based on affinity rather than location.
By bringing together disparate organisms, landscapes, objects, and cultural references, The Cabinet of Affinities proposes an alternative way of imagining territory. Rather than representing place through conventional cartographic surfaces, the project unfolds as a narrative cartography in which territory is mapped through stories, associations, and fictions.
The final project resulted in a publication called Figure / Ground, numbered editions no.1, Experimental Artist’s Writing released in 2021, Ireland.

El Gabinete de las Afinidades es un proyecto que comenzó durante un programa de residencia en Irlanda ”El Mapa no es el Territorio” en Cow House Studios, Irlanda. El trabajo propone una serie gráfica que busca trazar ciertos hitos visuales basándome en la visualidad de la ilustración científica del siglo XVI (específicamente de la Teoría de la Signatura) y lógica del Cabinete de Curiosidades; afinidades, cruces forzosos, encuentros furtivos y coincidencias entre elementos gráficos pertenecientes tanto a Irlanda y Chile proponen una forma distinta de traducir un territorio: una cartografía narrativa y espectulativa, con la cual no se representa un territorio dado, sino que en la que se proyectan ficciones.
